Hazelnut Pear Chocolate Chip Waffles

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Melt butter in large nonstick frying pan over medium heat; stir in sugar and salt. Cook, stirring, until sugar melts. Stir in pears; cover and cook for 8 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until pears are tender and juices thicken. Remove from heat; let cool for 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, place waffles on baking sheet; bake in centre of oven for 5 minutes, turning once, or until crisp and hot.
Place chocolate spread in microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 15 to 20 seconds or until pourable. Cut each waffle in half; divide among twelve plates. Drizzle each with about 1 tsp (5 mL) chocolate spread; top with pears and pecans. Serve immediately, with vanilla ice cream if desired.

To toast pecans, place on rimmed baking sheet in centre of preheated 350°F (180°C) oven for 7 to 10 minutes or until golden and fragrant.
